Contract of Grant Assistance to Japanese NGO Projects
by the Government of Japan regarding
Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development (NICCO)
In order to achieve the humanitarian and development goals of the Government of Japan through granting assistance to local governments and NGOs, the contract for granting a donation of €215,682 to Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development (NICCO), was signed by Mr. Kinichi KOMANO, Ambassador of Japanese Embassy in Iran and Mr. Yasutaka AKIMOTO, Representative of NICCO’s Mashhad Office, on 8 September 2011.
NICCO has been implementing vocational training projects, since 2003 aiming at enhancing computer skills and English language capabilities of Iranian poor people and Afghan refugees in Mashhad, by which more than 3,000 trainees could acquire various technical skills.
However, circumstances for job recruiting have been changed in the region in recent years and having mere technical skills is no longer sufficient for job hunting, but acquiring high vocational abilities and skills are a pre-requisite.
For these reasons, NICCO has been implementing the project titled “Program for Establishment of the Center for Capacity Building and Business Operation for Vulnerable Iranian and Voluntary Repatriation of Afghan Refugees in Iran” since July 2009, using “Grant Assistance to Japanese NGO Projects” by the Japanese Government. The new contract is planned to guarantee the continuation of the project for the 3rd year. Till now, a total number of 1,400 vulnerable Iranian and Afghan refugees have registered in the Center and have been trying to enhance their ability in job hunting and facilitate the process of repatriation through the services provided by NICCO. The purpose of the 3rd year-project is to enhance the functions of the Center on development of human resources and turning into a source for information dissemination, through cooperation among the concerned organizations in both Iran and Afghanistan.
The Government of Japan intends to further continue its assistance to NGOs and non-profit organizations active in the humanitarian and development fields, in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
