West Azerbaijan Agriculture Jihad Organization held a Seminar on Water Participatory Management of Urmia Lake Basin on 9th December 2013, at the West Azerbaijan Agriculture Jihad Provincial Office, with JICA’s collaboration
The Seminar is a part of the result of the meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Iranian President Hassan Rohani held in New York, in September, as well as the meeting between Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Tehran, in November 2013, in which they talked about co-operation on environmental issues
The water level of Urmia Lake is reducing day by day due to decrease of rain water, dams’ construction and overusing of agricultural water
In this Seminar, JICA irrigation expert who has been dispatched from Japan to Golestan Province for another Project, went to Urmia and gave lectures regarding Participatory Water Management Model to cope with the overusing agricultural water in order to recover water inflow to Urmia Lake
Mr. Tomohiko SAKAMOTO, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Iran took part in the ceremony and delivered speech together with Mr. TAKEUCHI, Chief Representative of JICA Iran office, Mr. MOKHTARI, Director General of West Azerbaijan Agriculture Provincial Office and Mr. PARASTAR, Director General of Agricultural Water & Soil Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture
